Gothic Manchester Festival

From October 21st to 27th, Manchester Metropolitan University's Centre for Gothic Studies hosted the Gothic Manchester Festival. Events included tours around gothic and neo-gothic buildings in Manchester, and a lamp-lit evening in the art gallery. The gallery event focused on and contextualised the gallery's gothic highlights.

Having been inspired by the previous night's art history, I set about photographing the guests at the festival's goth club night, ArA, paying homage to some of those gothic influences: chiaroscuro lighting, intense emotions, and romantic horror. And in some of the pictures we let our hair down — because life is too short to be so serious all the time.
